Abstract
Background: One of the healthy environment programs that aims to create a village whose residents are equipped with the necessary resources to handle mental health problems themselves is the Desa Siaga Kesehatan Jiwa (DSSJ) program. DSSJ is a community-based initiative that has included mental health cadres (trained lay people) to help people with mental disorders perform as well as possible in the community. Objective: To determine the role of cadres in the Desa Siaga Sehat Jiwa (DSSJ) program in the Pejagoan Health Center Working Area. Methods: The research method is descriptive with a survey approach. The authors took data from 94 cadres who were taken by total sampling. The data collection technique was a cadre role questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability with an Alpha Cronbach value of 0.950. Data analysis in this study included univariate analysis (descriptive analysis) presented in narrative and frequency distribution tables. Results: The role of cadres in the category is sufficient (44.7%). The role of cadres in early detection of mental health is good category (55.3%). The role of cadres in mobilizing the community to participate in counseling healthy groups, risks and disorders in the category of less (35.1%). The role of cadres in conducting home visits is poor (52.1%). The role of cadres in reference and documentation visits is good (41.5%). Conclusion: The role of cadres still needs to be improved, the majority of the roles of cadres are still in the sufficient and insufficient categories, especially in mobilizing the community to participate in group counseling on health, risks and disorders, and conducting home visits. Recommendations: The Pejagoan Health Center is expected to have a program to intervene in cadre training in an effort to increase the role of cadres in the Mental Health Alert Village Program (DSSJ).
