Abstract

Background: Stroke is one of the cerebrovascular diseases and the leading cause of death in Indonesia, the number of stroke patients under the age of 45 worldwide continues to increase. Upper limb paresis is one of the most common and disabling consequences of stroke which significantly limits activity. Mirror Therapy (MT) is aimed at improving motor function in stroke patients. MT consists of repetitive bilateral symmetrical movements where the patient moves the affected body part as much as he can while observing the reflection of the same unaffected body part in a mirror placed between those body parts while covering the affected part. Objective: To determine whether there is an effect of Mirror Therapy exercises on improving gross motor function in the extremities of patients with Non Hemorrhagic Stroke at KRT Setjonegoro Wonosobo Hospital. Results: A total of 50.9% of respondents were >61 years old, 47.4% of respondents or 27 respondents were 41-60 years old, and 1.8% were <40 years old. The gender of the respondents was 33 respondents (57.9%) male, and 24 respondents (42.1%) female. As for the employment status of respondents, data were obtained as many as 30 respondents or 52.6% worked, and 47.4% or as many as 27 respondents did not work. Mirror Therapy intervention with poor motor function was 15.8% or 9 respondents, sufficient motor function was 42.1% or 24 respondents, moderate motor function was 40.4% or 23 respondents and good motor function was 1.8%. Mirror Therapy intervention with the results of sufficient motor function was 12.3% or 7 respondents, moderate motor function was 61.4% or 35 respondents, and good motor function was 26.3% or 15 respondents. Conclusion: The effectiveness of Mirror Therapy intervention on improving gross motor function of the extremities in SNH patients. Recommendation: The results of this study should be used as one of the data to conduct further research with a more varied rehabilitation program with adequate time, personnel, and facilities so that nurses can carry out their role as facilitators and educators and actively involve families so that they can be adapted in home care.
