Abstract

Background: Psychology, as a scientific discipline, centers its study on human behavior. The emergence of positive psychology has introduced the concept of well-being, often referred to as psychological well-being or psychological wellbeing, into the perspective. Within psychological discourse, psychological wellbeing is intertwined with various behaviors, among them gratitude. Purpose: To present a comprehensive literature review concerning gratitude's impact on the psychological well-being of individuals across different age groups and those with chronic diseases. Method: The number of articles selected in this study was 12 articles related to gratitude and psychological well-being searches were conducted through Google schoolar, Researchgate, e-reseouce perpusnas, doaj.org, proquest.com, scopus, PubMed, Science Dirert. The inclusion criteria for this research are national and international reputation in Indonesian and English which are implemented in the 2018-2023 time frame. The article search strategy uses PICO frame work with keywords tailored to the topic of writing then selected with the assessment of Duffy Research's Critical Appraisal Tools. Results: The analysis of 12 research journals showed that gratitude has significant influence, contributing effectively to psychological well-being across distinct age categories: 52.5% for adolescents, 54.4% for adults, and 51.56% for the elderly. In individuals grappling with diabetes mellitus (DM), the level of gratitude is assessed at 67.5%, with psychological well-being at 56.9%. Conclusion: The synthesis of research underscores the interconnectedness of gratitude and psychological well-being in individuals spanning all age groups, as well as those contending with DM. Recommendation: Further researchers are encouraged to delve into additional factors that influence individual psychological well-being beyond gratitude, fostering a more nuanced understanding of this intricate relationship.
