Abstract

Background: Hypertensive patients often experience acute pain related to physiological factors, particularly in the head area, which can cause significant discomfort. Objective: To analyse the nursing care process for hypertensive patients with acute pain in the Barokah ward at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Method: To alleviate acute pain, a non-pharmacological approach was employed, specifically nostril breathing therapy administered once a day for 5–10 minutes over a period of 4 consecutive days. Results: All five patients were diagnosed with acute pain resulting from physiological injury agents, and pain management interventions were based on the Indonesian Nursing Outcome Standards (SLKI) and the Indonesian Nursing Intervention Standards (SIKI). The interventions included pain management techniques and the administration of nostril breathing therapy. The nursing evaluation revealed that the pain was successfully resolved, with a significant reduction in pain levels, as indicated by an average pain scale rating of 1. Recommendation: Nostril breathing therapy proves to be highly effective as a nonpharmacological intervention for reducing acute pain in hypertensive patients. Its inclusion in the care plan for hypertensive patients with acute pain is highly recommended.
