Abstract
Background: Febrile seizures are seizures that occur with an increase in body temperature (rectal temperature above 38 oC) caused by an extracranial process, especially in children aged 3 months-5 years. Handling of febrile seizures with non-pharmacological therapy, namely with red onion compresses and telon oil Objectives: Explaining nursing care for patients with febrile seizures with hyperthermia nursing problem in Aster room of Prof. Dr. Margono Soekarjo Hospital of Purwokerto. Methods: This research uses a descriptive method with a case study approach. The samples are 5 children with febrile seizures. The case study instrument used the SOP of Red Onion Compresses and Telon Oil and observation sheets before and after giving the treatment. Results: The results of the treatment to five patients experienced hyperthermia that were given interventions such as pharmacological therapy and non-pharmacological techniques of red onion compresses and telon oil twice a day, namely in the morning at 07.00 and evening at 14.00 and carried out for 2 hours before administration of antipyretics for finding out more valid results then being observed before and after the therapy. After 3 times 24 hours given to the five patients, the results showed that one child was partially resolved because the fever still came and went but was no more than 37.7 oC. Recommendations: The results of this study can be applied to hyperthermia patients to reduce the high body temperature to normal in a non-pharmacological way. Future researchers may examine the administration of non-pharmacological therapy of red onion soaking water to overcome ineffective airway clearance of children.
