Abstract
Background: Premature babies are babies born at less than 37 weeks' gestation. One of the problems that commonly occurs in premature babies is that the digestive or digestive system is not yet perfect, which can cause the absorption of nutrients and the duration of gastric emptying to be longer. The treatment intervention that can be carried out is by providing a right lateral position. General Objectives: Explaining nursing care for premature babies with nursing problems of gastrointestinal motility dysfunction in the Melati ward at RSUD Prof. Dr. Margono Soekardjo Purwokerto. Methods: This research uses a descriptive method with a case study approach. The sample for this study consisted of five premature baby patients with gastrointestinal problems. The instruments used in this case study used a neonate nursing care format, an SOP for administering the right lateral position, and an observation sheet before and after administering the right lateral position. Results of Nursing Care: The results of implementing innovative nursing actions in setting the right lateral position for 1 hour during and after providing nutrition to five patients for 3x7 hours showed that the absorption of nutrients or gastric emptying of each patient increased with the average volume of nutrients absorbed. as much as 15.1 ml, while the average gastric residual volume before the procedure was 4.8 ml, and after the procedure was 4.6 ml. Conclusion: There is an increase in nutrient absorption or gastric emptying, and the gastric residual volume decreases after the right lateral position is adjusted. Recommendation: It is necessary to prepare standard SOP for innovations in right lateral positioning to increase the consistency of intervention implementation.
