Abstract
Background: Most post-stroke patients experienced impaired cognitive function. If this disorder is not treated properly, it will have an impact on independence, psychological disorders and even dementia so that the patient's quality of life decreases. For this reason, one effort to improve cognitive ability is with Brain Gym, namely therapy in the form of movements that can increase blood flow to the brain, thus stimulating the disturbed parts of the brain. Objective: to determine the effect of brain gym on the cognitive funcyion of post-stroke patients at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital Research method: this research is a Quasi Experimental. Samples were taken using consecutive sampling technique, namely 54 people. The sample was divided into two groups, namely the interventuon group of 27 people and the control gropu of 27 people. Data analysis used the Paired T Test to test before and after treatment and the Independent T Test to test 2 groups Research results: There was no significant difference in the pre-test and pos-test cognitive function scores of the control group (p=0.663). There was a significant difference in the pre-test and post-test cognitive scores of the intervention group (p=0.000). There was a significant difference in cognitive function after brain gym between the control group and the intervention group (p=0.000) Conclusion: Barin Gym can be implemented as an alternative therapy program for post-stroke patients in hospitals.
