Abstract
Background: Low birth weight babies (less than 2.5 kg) may increase the risk of pediatric health problems such as slow growth, infections and respiratory distress. One of the main complications is sepsis neonatorum, a bacterial infection that occurs in infants after birth, with a mortality rate of 40 percent (%), and remains a major unsolved problem (WHO). Research Objective: To determine the factors associated with the incidence of sepsis neonatorum in LBW infants at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Research Methods: Retrospective case control study with a sample of all newborns with low birth weight who were treated at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Samples were taken using simple random sampling. The sample size was determined by the Slovin formula (case sample = 60). Comparison of cases and controls 1 : 1 so that the total sample was 120 samples. Research Results: PROM status, cloudy amniotic fluid, and prematurity were not significantly associated with sepsis in LBW infants, while asphyxia was significantly associated with sepsis in LBW infants. Recommendation: Further research will conduct more in-depth research involving additional factors and more complex methods.
