Abstract

Background: Fatigue is often a significant problem for patients undergoing hemodialysis, so an effective approach is needed to reduce the level of fatigue in hemodialysis patients. Two methods that have been used in reducing fatigue in various medical conditions are deep breathing exercise and progressive muscle relaxation (PMR). Deep breathing exercise involves inhaling and exhaling deeply and slowly to reduce tension and promote relaxation. Meanwhile, PMR involves a series of muscle exercises aimed at reducing muscle tension and increasing overall body relaxation. Objective: to determine the comparison of the effectiveness of deep breathing exercise and progressive muscle relaxation on fatigue levels in hemodialysis patients at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital Method: This research used a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control group design. The first group of respondents underwent breathing exercise, while the second group progressed to muscle relaxat on. The type of instrument in this research is fatigue observation before and after intervention. Data were analyzed descriptively and comparatively Results: There was a decrease in the level of fatigue (fatigue) in CKD patients undergoing hemodialysis in the Breathing Exercise treatment group (p<0.05) with a decrease of 6.3 n the FACIT-Fat gue Scale score before and after implementing the Breating Exercise. There was a decrease in the level of fatigue (fatigue) in CKD patients undergoing hemodialysis in the Progress Muscle Relaxation treatment group (p<0.05) with a decrease of 3.2 n the FACIT-Fatigue Scale score before and after the application of Progress Muscle Relaxation. Breathing Exercise is more effective in reducing (fatigue) than Progress Muscle Relaxat on in CKD patients undergoing hemodialysis with a difference of 3.04 FACIT-Fatigue Scale scores at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital Recommendation: it is hoped that consideration will be given to preparing an SOP for integrating breathing exercises and progressive muscle relaxation into the rehabil tation program for CKD patients undergoing hemodialysis
