Abstract

Background: Stroke Prevalence (Permil) Based on Diagnosis in Population Aged ≥ 15 Years is 10.9%, globally it is estimated that 25 million sufferers will end in death in 2030. The impact that stroke patients can have can affect part of their lives, such as : personal, social, physical and work. The family has a very important role in the recovery stage of stroke patients, therefore families are required to participate in the care of post-stroke patients. However, the problem is that families lack understanding regarding follow-up care at home after a stroke. Objective: To analyze the relationship between the level of family knowledge and the follow-up care of stroke patients at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Method: This research is descriptive correlation with a cross-sectional approach. Samples taken from 56 families of stroke patients were taken using total sampling technique. Bivariate analysis with Spearman rank test. Results: Family characteristics of stroke patients at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital were the majority with an age range of 46-55 years, 23 (41.1%) respondents, and 29 (51.8%) respondents were female. The majority of family knowledge was in the sufficient category, 22 respondents (39.3%). The majority of follow-up care for patients after stroke was in the positive category, numbering 42 respondents (75%). Conclusion: There is a relationship between the level of family knowledge about the stroke healing process and the follow-up care of patients after stroke at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Recommendation: Families can improve follow-up care for stroke patients so that stroke complications can be minimized.
