Abstract

Background: Acute gastroenteritis or diarrhea in children under 5 years of age is still a health problem with high morbidity and mortality in developing countries like Indonesia. Hospitalization of children with diarrhea is often associated with tension, worry, pressure, and traumatic experiences that cause stress for the patient and family members. Research related to the stress of parents facing children who are hospitalized has mostly been carried out on cases of infection, but not much has been studied on cases of diarrhea. This study aims to determine the stress level of parents of pediatric patients with acute diarrhea who are undergoing hospitalization at the Siaga Medika Hospital. Methodology: This research is a quantitative descriptive study, conducted at RSU Siaga Medika Banyumas in June-August 2023. The population in this study is parents including fathers and mothers of pediatric patients. This research uses a survey method, using the main data collection tool in the form of a questionnaire. The number of research samples, taken using accidental sampling technique, was 45 respondents. Results: Characteristics of parents who care for children with acute diarrhea at RSU Siaga Medika Banyumas. Most are female (60.0%), work as entrepreneurs (57.8%), have at least a high school education (71.1%). The stress level of parents caring for children with acute diarrhea at RSU Siaga Medika Banyumas mostly experienced moderate stress (57.8%) and severe stress (42.2%). Conclusion: Based on this research, it was found that parents who cared for children with acute diarrhea at RSU Siaga Medika Banyumas mostly experienced moderate levels of stress (57%), namely 26 respondents.
