Abstract
Background: Hypertension is blood pressure that increases above normal or unhealthy values for a long period of time, with systolic blood pressure of 140 mmHg or more and diastolic blood pressure of 90 mmHg or more. To treat hypertension, lifestyle adjustments should encourage more relaxation, and laughter therapy is a relaxation alternative for hypertension sufferers. Objective: To determine the effect of laughter therapy on reducing blood pressure in hypertension sufferers in Kabuaran Village, Prembun District. Method: This research uses a quasi-experimental method with a cross-sectional approach. Sampling used consecutive sampling technique and a sample of 50 respondents was obtained. Data collection uses laughter therapy SOPs and observation sheets. Data analysis used univariate and bivariate analysis using the paired sample t test. Results: The results of this study were that the average blood pressure of hypertensive sufferers before laughing therapy was systolic pressure 164.76 and diastolic pressure 90.44. The average blood pressure of hypertension sufferers after laughter therapy was as follows: systolic pressure 152.92 and diastolic pressure 85.48. Conclusion: There is an effect of laughter therapy on reducing blood pressure in hypertension sufferers in Kabuaran Village, Prembun District, marked by a significant value of 0.000 (P<0.05). Recommendation: Future researchers are expected to be able to examine factors that are thought to influence blood pressure in hypertensive patients.
