Abstract

Background: The prevalence of diabetes mellitus in Central Java Province based on doctor's diagnosis in people aged ≥ 15 years is 2.2% (Riskesdas, 2018). One of the complications of diabetes mellitus that is often encountered is diabetic foot which manifests as ulcers, infections and gangrene and atropathy. One way that can be done to prevent the symptoms of these complications is leg exercises, namely leg exercises Objective: To analyze the literature related to the effect of foot exercise on increasing blood circulation or Ankle Brachial Index (ABI) in DM patients. Methods: The research method used in this study is literature review using the keywords "foot exercise" + DM, "leg exercise" + blood circulation + DM, "foot exercise" + brachial index + DM number. The article was searched by google. scholar and Pubmed published from 2015 to 2020 which are accessed in full text in pdf format in Indonesian and English. Results: based on the 11 journals analyzed, there were 10 journals related to the intervention for the application of foot exercises given to Diabetes Mellitus patients, the majority said that diabetes mellitus exercises were given three times a week with a duration of 15 minutes. There are 11 journals related to the Ankle Brachial Index (ABI) and state that the average ABI value of the respondents after doing leg exercises is a normal value. Conclusion: Of the 11 journals that have been analyzed, 10 journals state that there is an effect of foot exercise on blood circulation or ABI in type 2 DM patients. Recommendation: Future researchers should investigate other factors that influence the improvement of blood circulation
