Abstract

Background: Typhoid fever cases are still relatively high despite complications and patient mortality gradually decreasing. pharmacological and non-pharmacological management is an important point in typhoid fever therapy. One of the non-pharmacological treatments in typhoid children with the main problem of hyperthermia is compresses of onion and olive oil. Objective: Provide an overview of nursing care in typhoid children with the main problem of hyperthermia with the application of compresses of onion and olive oil. Method: This study used the case report method. This case study was conducted over 3 days with 3 typhoid pediatric patients aged 5-10 years. Application of compresses of onion and olive oil wrapped with gauze was carried out when the patient had a fever. Instruments used included digital thermometers to measure temperature, nursing care formats, standard operating procedure sheets, and observation sheets. Results: From the results of the assessment of 3 patients, it was found that the children had a fever. The nursing diagnosis of hyperthermia was associated with the disease process. The action carried out was the application of compresses of onion and olive oil to reduce the fever. After the procedure for 30 minutes, the patient's body temperatures on average showed a decrease of 1.5°C – 2.5°C. Recommendation: Compresses of onion and olive oil may help lower typhoid fever in pediatric patients.
