Abstract
Background: Prolonged labor cases in Indonesia reach 9%. This case provides risks for mothers such as fatigue, dehydration, infection, bleeding, and other complications. Newborn babies can get the effect too, such as fetal distress or asphyxia. Applying the left lateral position and LI4 acupressure can speed up the first stage of labor. The left lateral position helps the baby’s head lead the way through the birth canal, while LI4 acupressure helps increase contractions without dangerous side effects. Objective: Applying the left lateral position and LI4 acupressure for prolonged labor in the first stage. Method: This descriptive qualitative study was conducted from February to March 2024 by applying the left lateral position and LI4 acupressure in the first stage of labor. The researcher observed the baby’s leading the way through the birth canal and uterine contractions and counted the time required during the first stage of labor. This study involved 3 respondents who met the inclusion criteria. Data were obtained from interviews and observations. Results: The application of the left lateral position and LI4 acupressure to 3 respondents showed a speed-up process in the first stage of labor. This could be seen from the opening of the cervix which did not exceed 1 cm/hour, even faster. Conclusion: Applying the left lateral position and LI4 acupressure can speed up the duration of the first stage of labor.
