Abstract
Background: Emesis gravidarum is a condition of nausea followed by vomiting during pregnancy. The incidence of nausea and vomiting reached 1-3% of all pregnancies in 2019 in Indonesia. Around 50 -75% of pregnant women in this country experience nausea and vomiting at the beginning of pregnancy. Aromatherapy provides changes to the mother's psychological, spiritual and physical condition through the mind, while acupressure can stimulate the body to be fitter, calmer and more comfortable, thereby reducing nausea and vomiting. Objective: Applying peppermint oil aromatherapy by inhalation and acupressure at the neiguan point (P6) to reduce nausea and vomiting in the first trimester of pregnancy. Method: This qualitative study used a case study design. Data were obtained from interviews, observation, and documentation. This study involved 3 pregnant women in the first trimester with nausea and vomiting. Results: Giving peppermint oil aromatherapy by inhalation and acupressure massage at the neiguan point (P6) every 7 days in the morning and evening managed to reduce the frequency of nausea and vomiting in pregnant women in the first trimester. Conclusion: Peppermint oil aromatherapy and acupressure massage at the neiguan point (P6) have been proven to reduce the frequency of nausea and vomiting in first-trimester pregnant women.
