Abstract
Background: Congestive heart failure (CHF) is the failure of the heart to pump sufficient blood flow throughout the body to meet nutritional and oxygen needs. Symptoms of heart disease can interfere with basic human needs, such as impaired gas exchange, decreased cardiac output, ineffective breathing patterns, hypervolemia, ineffective peripheral perfusion, activity intolerance, acute pain, anxiety, nutritional deficiencies, and risk of tissue and skin damage. Hypervolemia is an increase in intravascular, interstitial and intracellular fluid volume characterized by edema in peripheral tissues. One of the management of hypervolemia is Contrast Bath therapy, which is a treatment by soaking the feet up to the calf alternately using cold water and then using warm water. Contrast bath therapy aims to reduce hydrostatic pressure in the blood, thereby preventing plasma fluid from entering the interstitial space and improving fluid balance. Objective: To describe nursing care for heart failure patients with hypervolemia nursing problems using contrast bath therapy. Method: This scientific paper is descriptive with a case study approach. Data was obtained from studies, interviews and observations with three respondents who suffered from congestive heart failure. Results: After applying Contrast Bath therapy for 3 days constantly and the fluid balance of the three patients increased by an average of 500cc perday. Recommendation: Patients with congestive heart failure can be treated with Contrast bath therapy as a non-pharmacological therapy to reduce the level of edema.
