Abstract
Background, Pneumonia is inflammation of the lungs (one or both) caused by infection (bacteria, viruses, fungi). The inflammatory process in pneumonia causes increased secretion of secretions and causes clinical manifestations that result in ineffective airway clearance. Providing effective coughing exercises has the benefit of helping sputum expulsion. Objective: To determine the effectiveness of effective coughing exercises in pneumonia patients with a diagnosis of ineffective airway clearance. Method: Descriptive observation with a case study approach. The subjects in this study were 5 patients with pneumonia, shortness of breath, coughing up phlegm that was difficult to expel with a respiratory rate > 24 x/minute, GCS 15 or composmentis, age range 15-60 years and patients were willing to be respondents. Therapy was carried out 5 times. This case study was carried out in the emergency room at RSI Banjarnegara from February to April 2024. Results of Nursing Care: Descriptive observation with a case study approach. The subjects in this study were 5 patients with pneumonia, shortness of breath, coughing up phlegm that was difficult to expel with a respiration rate > 24 x/minute, GCS 15 or composmentis, age range 15-60 years and the patient was willing to be a respondent. Conclusion: Effective coughing exercises can improve respiratory status and reduce shortness of breath, and help expel phlegm.
