Abstract
Background: Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease that has the classic symptoms of polydipsia, polyphagia and polyuria. The polyuria experienced is an increase in the frequency of urination which ultimately affects the quality of sleep. Objective: to determine the effect of sleep hygiene activity therapy on the sleep quality of diabetes mellitus sufferers. Method: This research used a quasi-experiment method with a pre and post test approach with control group design for 40 patients in Prolanis activities in the Puring Community Health Center Working Area. Divided into 2 groups, a control group of 20 patients and an intervention group of 20 patients. Statistical tests use non-parametric tests, namely Mann Whitney and wolcoxon. Results: The results of the wilcoxon test on the pre-test and post-test values in the experimental group obtained p value = 0,007, on the pre-test and post-test values in the control group obtained p value = 0,046. The results of the Mann Whitney statistical test on the pre-test scores of the experimental group and the control group obtained p value= 0.367 , then the post test scores of the experimental group and control group obtained p value= 0.000. Conclusion: There is a therapeutic effect of sleep hygiene habits on the sleep quality of diabetes mellitus sufferers. Recommendation: Future researchers are expected to implement this therapy and add herbal intervention by drinking Chamomile tea so that within one to two weeks it is enough to change the sleeping habits.
