Abstract

Background: The head injury of interference with normal function in the brain as a result of blunt or sharp trauma. The most frequent symptoms of those with head injuries are acute pain. Acute pain itself is defined as an unpleasant experience involving sensations and emotions occurring because of sufficient damage or potential tissue damage, all of a sudden, with an intensity from mild to severe, occurring in less than 3 month. One of the relaxation therapies used as pain management was the slow deep breathing therapy. SDB is a combination off deep and slow breathing that has a frequency of 10 times per minute or less with lengthy breathing phases. Objective: Describes nursing care in patients with mild head injuries with acute pain treatment diagnosis with slow deep breathing therapy in emergency installations. Method: This type of research employed a qualitative descriptive approach. The datagathering process in this study was done by interviews, observations, physical and document analysis to 3 patients within three days of treatment. Results: The application of slow deep brathing therapy in patients with mild head injuries in an effort to lower the scale of pain proved effective with an average decline in the scale of pain 3. Patient I from scale of pain 6 to scale 3, patient II from pain scale 5 to scale 2, patient III from pain scale 6 to scale 3. Recommendation: The application of slow deep breathing therapy in mild head injuries is proven to be effective at lowering scale in the light range to moderate (1-6).
