Abstract

Background: Diabetes is one of the world's seven major chronic diseases: cancer, heart disease, AIDS, diabetes, tuberculosis and hepatitis. The complications of diabetes mellitus are acute or chronic, macrovascular or microvascular. Microvascular complications include retinopathy (eye damage) which can lead to blindness, nephropathy (kidney) which can lead to kidney failure and neuropathy (nerve) which can lead to various nerve disorders, such as itching, pain and impotence of men. Objective: To determine the factors influencing microvascular complications of diabetes mellitus (DM) patients at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong hospital. Methods: This research method used cross sectional. The population of this study was 229 patients. The sample was 70 respondents taken using consecutive sampling technique. Data analysis were univariate analysis with percentage, and bivariate with chi square test. Results: The results of this study found no correlation of age (0.654>0.05), gender (0.077>0.05) with microvascular complications of diabetes mellitus patients. There is correlation between length of suffering (0.037<0.05), history of hypertension (0.009<0.05), regularity of treatment (0.015<0.05), and physical activity (0.025<0.05) with microvascular complications of diabetes mellitus patients. Conclusion: The conclusion of this study is that there is a correlation between length of suffering, history of hypertension, regularity of treatment and physical activity with microvascular complications of diabetes mellitus patients, and there is no correlation between age and gender with microvascular complications. Recommendations: The further researchers should use more respondents and variables to get maximum data.
