Abstract
Background: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) leads to decreased kidney function and complications such as fatigue, anemia, and electrolyte disturbances. Hemodialysis is a common therapy for CKD. Fatigue in hemodialysis patients can be triggered by anemia, sleep disorders, and stress. Relaxation breathing exercises and lavender aromatherapy are two complementary therapies effective in alleviating fatigue in hemodialysis patients. Objective: To compare the effectiveness of Relaxation Breathing Exercise (RBE) and lavender aromatherapy on fatigue levels in hemodialysis patients at RS PKU Muhammadiyah Sruweng. Methods: This study employed a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group approach. The sample was divided into two groups: the RBE treatment group and the lavender aromatherapy treatment group. The instruments used were SOP and the FACIT Fatigue Scale. The study utilized univariate analysis and bivariate analysis with the T-test. Results: There were significant changes in fatigue levels in hemodialysis patients before and after the RBE and lavender aromatherapy treatments. RBE was more effective in reducing fatigue levels in hemodialysis patients compared to lavender aromatherapy. Conclusion: RBE is more effective in reducing fatigue levels in hemodialysis patients compared to lavender aromatherapy at RS PKU Muhammadiyah Sruweng. Recommendations: RBE can be recommended as a complementary therapy to alleviate fatigue in hemodialysis patients.
