Abstract
Background: Hypertension is a non-communicable disease which is a significant contributor to morbidity worldwide due to uncontrolled blood pressure. To avoid complications that occur, sufferers must be able to control their blood pressure. Through slow deep breathing therapy, hypertensive patients are expected to be able to control their disease and avoid unwanted complications. Objective: To determine the effect of slow deep breathing on changes in blood pressure in hypertensive patients in the working area of the Madukara 1 Public Health Center, Banjarnegara. Methods: This study used a quasi-experimental method with a one group pretest posttest whithout control design. The population of all hypertension patients in the working area of the Madukara 1 Health Center is 77 people. The sample method uses total sampling, a sample of 77 people. Results: The characteristics of the majority of patients with late elderly age were 32 (41.6%), women were 53 (68.8%), did not work 32 (41.6%) and suffered for ≥ 5 years amounted to 40 (51.9%). The initial blood pressure of the majority of patients with Stage I hypertension was 44 (57.1%). Blood pressure after being given slow deep breathing the majority with normal blood pressure was 45 (58.4%) with a p_value of 0.00 (<0.05). Conclusion: The results of the study found that there was an effect of slow deep breathing on changes in blood pressure in hypertensive patients in the working area of the Madukara 1 Health Center
