Abstract

Background : Individuals with hypertension should control their blood pressure, one method being through diet. A diet refers to the regulation of the amount or type of food consumed. Compliance involves the transition from non-adherence to adherence to established guidelines. This study aims to explore whether there is a relationship between dietary compliance and blood pressure. Objectives : To determine the relationship between dietary compliance and blood pressure in individuals with hypertension in Bumirejo Village, Kebumen. Methods : This study is a correlational analytical quantitative research using a cross sectional approach. The sample consisted of 86 individuals, selected using a total sampling technique. Data were collection through a questionnaire and analyzed using the SPSS Spearman Rho test. Results : Among the respondents, 60 (69.8%) demonstrated high dietary adherence, while 26 (30.2%) showed moderate adherence. Blood pressure readings revealed that 14 respondents (16.3%) were in the prehypertension category, 49 (57.0%) had mild hypertension, 18 (20.9%) had moderate hypertension, and 5 (5.8%) had severe hypertension. The Spearman Rho test showed a correlation coefficient of -0.083, indicating a very weak and inverse relationship. The p-value was 0.446 (>0.05), leading to the rejection of Ha and acceptance of Ho, which suggests that there is no significant relationship between dietary compliance and blood pressure in individuals with hypertension in Bumirejo Village, Kebumen. Conclusion : There was no significant relationship between dietary compliance and blood pressure in individuals with hypertension in Bumirejo Village, Kebumen. Recommendations : Future research should investigate other factors, such as physical activity, that may influence blood pressure.
