Abstract
Background: Diabetes Melitus (DM), a non-infectious condition caused by damage to the pancreas, results in decreased insulin production. Management of Diabetes Mellitus involves four main pillars, namely pharmacological therapy, physical therapy, medical nutritional therapy (diet), and providing education. Family support plays an important role in increasing the consistency of eating patterns in DM victims. Objective: To analyze the relationship between psychological support from the family and dietary compliance in diabetes mellitus patients in the Puring Community Health Center area. Method: This research is quantitative descriptive research, correlational descriptive research, with a cross-sectional approach. The samples taken by nurses were 83 people using Purposive Sampling Technique. Data analysis used univariate analysis. Results: Characteristics of respondents based on age, the majority were 56-65 years old, 35 respondents (42.2%), 73 respondents (88.0%) were female, 46 respondents (55.4%) had completed elementary school. The majority of psychological support from families of diabetes mellitus patients is good. Diet compliance of 73 diabetes mellitus patients (88%) with type 2 diabetes mellitus adhered to the diet on the number of foods, and adhered to the diet on types of food and 63 respondents (75.9%) adhered to the food schedule. Conclusion: There is a relationship between psychological support from the family and dietary compliance in diabetes mellitus patients in the Puring Community Health Center area. Recommendation: It is hoped that nurses will provide valuable input for developing human resources by focusing on health education and increasing family involvement for DM patients in providing psychological support.
