Abstract
Background: Thalassemia patients not only face psychological issues but also experience physical problems, including dizziness, weakness, pale complexion, difficulty sleeping, and limitations that can affect their quality of life. Therefore, family support is essential to enhance the quality of life for children with thalassemia. Objective: To determine the relationship between family support and the quality of life of children with thalassemia at Dr. Soedirman Hospital Kebumen. Method: This study is a quantitative correlation type with a cross-sectional approach. Sampling used consecutive sampling with a total of 49 respondents from child patients and their parents. Bivariate analysis was conducted using chi-square. Results: The majority of family support was good, with 38 (77.6%) respondents, and the quality of life of children with thalassemia was mostly normal, with 41 (83.7%) respondents. The chi-square test yielded (p=0.003) < 0.05, indicating a relationship between family support and the quality of life of children with thalassemia. Conclusion: There is a relationship between family support and the quality of life of children with thalassemia at Dr. Soedirman Hospital Kebumen. Recommendation: For future researchers, it is suggested to discuss or investigate in more detail the factors influencing the quality of life of children with thalassemia
