Abstract
Background; Family communication patterns play an important role in the development of elementary school children's social skills. A deep understanding of the relationship between these two variables can provide valuable insights into efforts to improve children's social skills in the school environment and society. Objective; The purpose of the study was to determine the relationship between family communication patterns and children's social skills at Kaliwatukranggan State Elementary School, Purworejo. Method; This study employed a quantitative descriptive method with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 60 individuals selected through purposive sampling. The research instrument used was a questionnaire on family communication patterns and children's social skills. The data obtained were subjected to a Spearman rank statistical test. Results; The results of this study indicate a fairly strong relationship between family communication patterns and children's social skills at Kaliwatukranggan State Elementary School, Purworejo, with a P-value of 0.033 and a correlation coefficient (cc) of 0.276. Conclusion; Family communication patterns have a positive correlation with children’s social skills . Recommendations for further research; Further research can explore other factors that influence children's social skills, such as parenting patterns, school environment, peers, or individual factors of children
