Abstract
Background: Vaginal discharge is defined as a profuse discharge from the vagina other than blood. Vaginal discharge often looks normal in individuals, but can also cause disease if not treated appropriately. One way to prevent pathological vaginal discharge by using red betel leaf the content in red betel leaf can eliminate bacteria and anti-fungal in the body. Objective: Knowing the effect of red betel leaf decoction water in overcoming vaginal discharge in female students of Muhammadiyah University of Gombong. Method: This study used a quasy-experiment with pretest-posttest design with control group design. There were 52 of people with stratified random sampling technique divided into two groups. There were 26 of treatment group and there were 26 of control group. After 6 days, the symptoms of vaginal discharge were observed. The data analysis using Wilcoxon test and Mann-Withney tests. Results: The results showed in the treatment group that there was an effect of red betel leaf decoction on the level of vaginal discharge (p=0.000) and there was a significant difference between the treatment group and the control group (p=0.000). Conclusion: There is a significant difference between pre and posttest after given the intervention of red betel leaf decoction water. Recommendation: Future research is expected to compare other medicinal plants to overcome vaginal discharge.
