Abstract
Background: One of the common complexities of T2DM in the field of tooth eruption is oral diabetes, which includes gingivitis, dry mouth, calculus, alveolar bone resorption, periodontitis, and other conditions as listed. Periodontitis is one of the many complications that can arise due to diabetes mellitus, with the highest frequency occurring in patients with a prevalence rate of up to 75%. Maintaining oral and dental hygiene is one way to become healthier. People pay less attention to dental and oral health problems because of a lack of knowledge about them. Objective: This study aims to identify the correlation between the level of knowledge and motivation regarding periodontal in Type 2 DM sufferers at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital Methods: This research uses a descriptive design with correlative techniques with a cross-sectional approach. The sample used was 50 respondents selected using the Total Sample Technique. Data was collected using a questionnaire, and data was analyzed using Spearman's Rho Correlation. Results: The research results obtained a significant value (p=0.395<0.005) which means there is a relationship between the level of knowledge and motivation about periodontal and Type 2 DM. The results showed that there were 15 respondents who had a good level of knowledge and good motivation with a percentage of 93. 8% with a sufficient level of knowledge and good motivation 8 respondents with a presentation of 72.7% and a level of knowledge that lacks motivation in the good category 12 respondents with 52.2%. Then there was 1 respondent with a moderate level of motivation and a good level of knowledge with a percentage of 6.3% and a moderate level of motivation and a sufficient level of knowledge. 3 respondents with a value of 27.3% for a moderate level of motivation and a low level of knowledge. 11 respondents with a percentage of 47.8 %. The results of this study show that in general the level of knowledge and motivation about periodontal is related to Type 2 DM. Conclusion: Level of Knowledge and Motivation have a significant correlation with Type 2 DM sufferers at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital Recommendation: It is hoped that this research can become a data basis for further research in determining appropriate interventions to increase the level of knowledge and motivation regarding periodontal of Type 2 DM patients
