Abstract

Background: Hypertension is one of the most significant health issues among the elderly. It often diminishes their confidence in their ability to manage and recover from the condition. Self-efficacy is considered a crucial factor in an individual's ability to make changes, such as adhering to therapy and maintaining the desire to recover in cases of chronic disease. Purpose: This study aims to identify the relationship between self-efficacy and self-management in elderly hypertension sufferers in Alian District. Method: The study employs a correlational design with quantitative techniques using a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 56 respondents selected through a total sampling technique. Data were collected using questionnaires and blood pressure measurements and analyzed using Spearman's Rho correlation. Results: The study found a significant relationship between self-efficacy and hypertension (p = 0.000 < 0.05). The self-efficacy of respondents in this study was generally good, with 37 respondents (66.1%) categorized as having good self-efficacy, 14 respondents (25%) in the sufficient category, and five respondents (8.9%) in the less sufficient category. These results suggest that self-efficacy is generally related to hypertension management. Conclusion: A significant relationship exists between self-efficacy and self-management among hypertension sufferers at the Alian Health Center. Recommendations: This study provides a data foundation for future research in determining effective interventions to improve self-efficacy and self-management among hypertension patients.
