Abstract

Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease that requires long-term treatment. The complexity of the associated problems can impact patients’ self-efficacy, which is crucial for diet, exercise, medication adherence, and blood sugar control behaviour modification. Improving self-efficacy is essential to enhance the quality of life for patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Research Objective: This study aims to determine the relationship between self-efficacy and the quality of life of type 2 diabetes mellitus patients at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Method: This study is a quantitative, cross-sectional study. The sample consisted of 62 type 2 diabetes mellitus patients at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital, selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data were collected through a questionnaire. Research Results: The study found that 55% of the patients had low self-efficacy, while 45% had high self-efficacy. Additionally, 60% of patients reported a low quality of life, while 40% reported a high quality of life. Statistical analysis revealed a significant relationship between self-efficacy and quality of life in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients, with a p-value of 0.003 (p < 0.05). Conclusion: This study's results indicate that self-efficacy was significantly related to the quality of life of type 2 diabetes mellitus patients. Recommendations: Future research should explore factors related to self-efficacy.
