Abstract
Background: Decubitus ulcers often appear in patients with impaired mobility as a result of prolonged pressure from limited mobility and having to lie supine for a long time. The prevalence of decubitus ulcers in a number of Asian countries is quite high, such as Singapore (18.1%), Malaysia (15.5%), Japan (9.8%) and China (1.8%). If pressure sores are not treated properly, they can cause infection and hinder the healing process. One other non-pharmacological step to prevent pressure sores is to do massage. ICU patients in the last 6 months from July 2023-December 2023 at Prembun Regional Hospital were 255 patients. Of that number, there were 65 patients with a diagnosis of decreased consciousness, in addition there were also 27 patients with decubitus incidents. Objective: To determine the effect of back massage and lying down on the incidence of pressure ulcers in the ICU at Prembun Regional Hospital. Method: This research uses a pre-experimental type with a One Group Pretest- Posttest Design. The sample consisted of 32 patients with decreased consciousness in the treatment (intervention) group taken using total sampling technique. Data analysis used the Paired Sample t-Test. Results: The degree of decubitus before the back massage was carried out and the shift to lying down. Respondents experienced an average degree of decubitus of 11.62 (high risk category) with an SD of 1.338 with a minimum value of 9 (very high risk) and a maximum of 14 (medium risk category). Meanwhile, the degree of decubitus after being given back massage increased on average to 14.59 (low risk category) with an SD of 1.757 with the lowest value being 12 (high risk category) and the highest 18 (light risk category). Conclusion: There is an influence of back massage on the incidence of pressure ulcers in the ICU Room at Prembun Regional Hospital Suggestion: This research is recommended for nurses to apply back massage and lying down to patients with pressure ulcers in the ICU room at Prembun Regional Hospital.
