Abstract

Background: The incidence of hypertension among individuals aged over 18 in Indonesia reached 34.11% in 2018. In Central Java, the rate was 37.57%, ranking it 4th in Indonesia, with Kebumen Regency at 31.61%. Regular exercise is highly beneficial for individuals with hypertension as it boosts the immune system, prevents obesity, regulates blood glucose levels, normalizes blood pressure, increases insulin receptor sensitivity, and improves physical capacity. Research Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of hypertension exercises in reducing blood pressure among the elderly in the Working Area of the Sempor II Health Center. Research Method: This study employed a pre-experimental method with a one-group pre-post-test design involving 55 patients. The subjects were observed before and again after the intervention. Statistical analysis was conducted using the non-parametric Wilcoxon test. Research Results: The Wilcoxon test results showed a significant difference between pre-and post-test values, with an asymptotic significance (2-tailed) value of <0.001, which is less than 0.05, indicating that the null hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. Conclusion: Hypertension exercise therapy effectively reduces blood pressure in the elderly. Recommendation: Future research should explore additional variables to broaden and enhance the findings.
