Abstract
Background: Dental caries is a disease that is commonly experienced by children, with the largest vulnerable age range being children aged 6 to 14 years. There are several factors that trigger the emergence of dental caries, including consumption patterns of foods and drinks that contain a lot of sugar, poor or lazy tooth brushing habits, and lack of attention to dental and oral health. Objective: To determine the relationship between diet and dental care methods on the incidence of dental caries in elementary school-aged children at SDN Cinanas 01, Bantarkawung sub-district, Brebes district. Method: This research uses a correlation method with a cross-sectional research design. The number of respondents in the research was 47 people using a total sampling technique. Measuring dietary pattern variables used instrument dietary pattern questionnaire, how to care for teeth used dental care questionnaire, while the incidence of dental caries used observation of dental caries. Statistical data analysis uses chi-square to determine the relationship between independent and dependent variables. Results: There is a relationship between diet and the incidence of dental caries with a p-value <0.001 <0.05, and there is a relationship between the method of dental care and the incidence of dental caries with a p-value <0.001 <0.05. Conclusion: There is a relationship between diet and dental care methods on the incidence of dental caries in elementary school-aged children at SDN Cinanas 01. Recommendation: It is hoped that future researchers can add more respondents and examine other variables.
