Abstract
Background: The elderly are a group of people who have reached the age of 60 years and over. Physiological changes in the elderly that often occur are a decrease in the body's immune system. One of the disorders that elderly people often encounter is disorders of the cardiovascular system, namely high blood pressure. The main symptom that hypertension sufferers usually complain about is pain. Headaches are caused by prolonged stress which causes reflex vasospasm in several arteries in the head, including the arteries that supply blood to the human brain. One therapy that can be carried out on hypertension sufferers is progressive muscle relaxation therapy which can gradually release tension, restore balance to the mind and body and influence the stability of blood pressure. Objective: The general aim of this author is to describe nursing care for elderly people with hypertension using the application of progressive muscle relaxation therapy. Methods: This scientific paper was in the form of a case study with the subject of clients who had a history of hypertension as many as 3 respondents in pekuncen village, which was carried out for 3 days. To determine if there was a reduction in hypertension, an evaluation sheet was attached. Results: After administering progressive muscle relaxation therapy for 3 days, the results showed that headache complaints in the elderly were reduced from a moderate pain scale(4-6) to a mild pain scale (1-3) and the pain was very rarely felt. Conclusion: It is hoped that future researchers will be able to examine the provision of progressive muscle relaxation therapy in hypertensive patients of productive age.
