Abstract
Background: Rational use of antipsychotics is essential in the management of schizophrenia patients. Rationality in antipsychotic use is crucial to ensure the effectiveness of treatment and to prevent prolonged hospitalization. Irrational use can contribute to extended hospital stays and increased costs. Objective: To determine the relationship between the rationality of antipsychotic use in schizophrenia patients and the length of stay in the Inpatient Unit at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital during the 2023 period. Method: This study is an observational research with a cross-sectional analysis design. Data were collected retrospectively using the total sampling method, with a sample size of 125 patients. Bivariate analysis was conducted using the Spearman Rho test to determine the relationship between the two variables. Results: Of the 125 patients, 91 patients (73%) received rational antipsychotic therapy, while 34 patients (27%) received irrational therapy. The analysis of the relationship between the rationality of antipsychotic use and the length of hospital stay showed no significant relationship, with a p-value > 0,05, specifically 0,178. Conclusion: The relationship between the rationality of antipsychotic use and the length of stay in the Inpatient Unit at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital showed no significant association. Recommendation: Further research is recommended on factors influencing the rationality of antipsychotic use in schizophrenia patients and factors affecting the length of stay.
