Abstract
Background, essential oil of basil leaves (Ocimum basilicum L) is a plant that can inhibit antibacterial activity, one of which is Staphylococcus epidermidis bacteria. Research Objectives, this study aims to make an emulgel preparation of basil leaf essential oil (Ocimum basilicum L.). Research Methods, this type of research is experimental. Essential oil obtained from online stores equipped with COA certificates is made into emulgel preparations with essential oil concentrations of 4%, 6%, 8%. The emulgel preparation was tested for physical properties as a negative control and clindamycin gel as a positive control, then tested for antibacterial against Staphylococcus epidermidis using the pitting method. The data obtained were tested using One Way ANOVA. The results, showed that basil leaf essential oil has good antibacterial activity in basil leaf essential oil emulgel preparations shown in formulation 2 with an inhibition zone diameter of 16.0mm. The results of formulations 1 and 3 with inhibition zone diameters of 15.5mm and 15.7mm with moderate category classification. Conclusion, based on the results of the study, basil leaf essential oil emulgel preparations have antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus epidermidis with different concentrations. Suggestions, further research needs to be done regarding the comparison of antibacterial activity of basil leaf essential oil using different testing methods and bacteria or other activity tests for topical use of basil leaf essential oil.
