Abstract
Background: Breast milk (ASI) is the first and main food for newborns. The Global Nutrition Goals 2025 set a target of 50% exclusive breastfeeding for babiesaged 0-6 months, but in Indonesia, exclusive breastfeeding coverage is still low. This is due to the lack of public awareness to increase breastfeeding. The phenomenon of young mothers who do not breastfeed their children also occurs in Indonesia. Knowledge and attitudes about breastfeeding are very important because they are related to a person's behavior in providing exclusive breastfeeding. Objective: to determine the relationship between knowledge and attitudes of mothers about providing breast milk tonewborns at RSU Wijayakusuma. Method: This study used a quantitative observational method with a cross-sectional design approach. The sample taken was 72 patients with the total sampling technique. Bivariate analysis with Chi-Square.. Results: The characteristics of the majority of ideal age are (20-34 years) with 40 respondents (80%), the majority of working mothers are 30 respondents (60%) and have high school education with 29 respondents (58%). The level of knowledge of mothers about exclusive breastfeeding with a good category is 33 people (66%). The attitude in providing exclusive breastfeeding is positive is 36 people (72%), and the majority of mothers provide exclusive breastfeeding is 37 people (74%). There is a relationship between the level of knowledge of mothers (p = 0.000) and attitudes (p = 0.002) towards providing breastfeeding. Conclusion: There is a relationship between the level of knowledge and attitudes of mothers towards providing breastfeeding at RSU Wijayakusuma Kebumen. Recommendation: For the hospital to be able to improve education or counseling programs to improve how to provide exclusive breastfeeding for mothers.
