Abstract

Background: Breast cancer treatment may involve the administration of chemotherapy drugs, either as a single agent or in combination, which can lead to negative effects resulting from the therapy, known as Drug-Related Problems (DRPs). One of the DRPs associated with chemotherapy drug use is the selection of drug dosage. A dose that is too low may result in suboptimal therapeutic effects because it is below the recommended dose, while a dose that is too high may cause toxicity. Objective: The objective of this study is to analyse drug-related problems (DRPs) in the category of inappropriate dosage selection among breast cancer patients in the inpatient unit of X Hospital during the period of January to December 2022. Method: This research is a non-experimental, descriptive study with a retrospective approach. The study was conducted from January to December 2022 at X Hospital with a total of 100 samples collected using the quota sampling method. Results : In the analysis of DRPs related to inappropriate dosage selection, it was found that 100 incidents (34.48%) involved doses that were too low, 16 incidents (5.52%) involved doses of one of the active ingredients that were too high, 3 incidents (1.03%) involved a medication regimen that was not frequent enough, 77 incidents (26.90%) involved a regimen that was too frequent, and 93 incidents (32.07%) involved errors in dosage timing, unclear dosing, or missed doses. Conclusion: DRPs incidents related to dosage selection in breast cancer patients in the inpatient unit of X Hospital are still prevalent, particularly with doses that are too low, accounting for 100 incidents (34.48%). Recommendation: To reduce the occurrence of drug-related problems (DRPs), regular monitoring and evaluation of dosage regimens are necessary.
