Abstract
Background: Diabetes Mellitus is a metabolic disorder characterized by elevated blood glucose levels due to impaired insulin secretion, insulin action, or both. The high prevalence of this condition affects the length of hospital stay (LOS). Research Objective: This study aims to identify the risk factors that predict the length of hospital stay in patients with Type II Diabetes Mellitus at Prembun General Hospital, Kebumen Regency, during the 2023 period. Research Methods: This retrospective study utilized a descriptive-correlational approach, employing the Chi-Square test. The relationship between the length of hospital stay, considered as the dependent variable, was examined in relation to independent variables, including demographic data (age and gender), laboratory data, chronic diseases, and comorbidities. Research Findings: The age parameter above 65 years was found to increase the risk of a longer hospital stay, with an odds ratio (OR) of 1.143 (0.637-2.051); p = 0.383. The gender parameter (female) in Type II Diabetes Mellitus patients was associated with a decreased risk of a prolonged hospital stay, OR = 0.678 (0.380-1.208); p = 0.120. Conclusion: The length of hospital stay for Type II Diabetes Mellitus patients ranged from 2 to 7 days, with a total of 190 patients. The duration of hospitalization is generally adjusted based on the patient’s condition, with shorter stays typically involving procedures such as hemodialysis. Recommendations: Further research is needed to explore the risk factors associated with the length of hospital stay in patients with Type II Diabetes Mellitus.
