Abstract

Background: A total of 4 million babies are born each year in the United States and 65% of them experience neonatal jaundice. In Malaysia, 75% of newborns experience jaundice in the first seven days. Among the 10 ASEAN countries, Indonesia's IMR is ranked 7th before Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar. Data on neonatal jaundice in Indonesia are obtained from educational hospitals where the prevalence of neonatal jaundice reaches 58% for bilirubin levels above 5 mg/dL and 29.3% for bilirubin levels above 12 mg/dL in the first week of life. Objective: To provide midwifery care for the implementation of exclusive breastfeeding and morning sunlight therapy for the prevention of neonatal jaundice in infants aged 0-7 days. Method: This study used a case study design by examining a problem through an event at a time obtained through detailed data collection. Results: The implementation of exclusive breastfeeding and morning sunlight therapy for 7 consecutive days on five respondents aged 0-7 days showed that 100% of the respondents had no signs of neonatal jaundice and were healthy. Conclusion: The implementation of exclusive breastfeeding and morning sunlight therapy is effective in preventing neonatal jaundice in newborns aged 0-7 days
