Abstract

Background: Mangiferin is a secondary metabolite compound that has benefits as pharmacological effects. Bacang Mango (Mangifera foetida L) and Arumanis Mango (Mangifera indica L) are plants that contain mangiferin compounds. Objectives: To determine the levels of mangiferin contained in the ethanol fraction of Bacang Mango leaves (Mangifera foetida L) and Arumanis Mango (Mangifera indica L) using HPLC method. Methods: This study used the leaves of Bacang Mango (Mangifera foetida L) and Arumanis Mango (Mangifera indica L) which were extracted by maceration using 70% ethanol. The extract was standardized on 2 parameters, namely specific (organoleptic test) and non-specific (water content test, total ash content test and acid insoluble ash content test). The extract is fractionated with 70% ethanol, ethyl acetate and n-hexane. Determination of mangiferin levels was carried out by HPLC. The results of the mangiferin level are expressed in μg/mL. Result: Viscous extract, water content of 7.9% and 7.6%, total ash content of 10.9% and 9.25, and acid insoluble ash content of 0.495 and 0.48%. The mangiferin content obtained in Bacang Mango (Mangifera foetida L) was 3.479 μg/mL and Arumanis Mango (Mangifera indica L) was 16.072 μg/mL. Conclusion: The mangiferin content obtained by the ethanol fraction of Arumanis Mango leaves (Mangifera indica L) was greater than that of Bacang Mango (Mangifera foetida L), which was 16.072 μg/mL > 3.479 μg/mL Recommendation: Sample level tests were carried out using other mango species and LOD tests and LOQ tests to obtain more varied data
