Abstract
Background: Low Birth Weight (L.B.W.) babies are defined as those weighing less than 2,500 grams. The primary cause of L.B.W. is insufficient nutritional intake for the fetus. A study revealed that 18 mothers with L.B.W. babies had poor knowledge regarding infant care. This knowledge deficit often results from a lack of information and self-confidence in caring for L.B.W. infants. Purpose: This study aims to describe the outcomes of nursing care by educating postpartum mothers with a knowledge deficit about caring for L.B.W. babies. Method: The research employed a case study method with a sample size of 5 participants. Knowledge deficits were assessed using questionnaires administered before and after the two-day intervention, and educational materials such as pocketbooks and leaflets were provided. Result: The primary nursing problem identified was a knowledge deficit. Health education interventions were provided for 30 minutes. The initial evaluation showed that two mothers were in the poor knowledge category, while 3 had sufficient knowledge, with an average score of 52%. After the intervention, the final evaluation showed a significant improvement, with an average score of 82%. Conclusion: The study demonstrated increased postpartum mothers' knowledge regarding the care of L.B.W. babies after receiving educational interventions.
