Abstract

Background: Pain is a common symptom in breast cancer patients that affects their quality of life, stemming from both the disease process and treatment side effects. The management of chronic pain in breast cancer patients includes the use of medications and non-pharmacological interventions such as hand massage. Objective: This study aims to analyze the nursing care application of hand massage in patients with ca mammae experiencing chronic pain at Regional General Hospital Dr Soedirman Kebumen. Methods: This study employs a descriptive method with a case study approach. The subjects of the study are five breast cancer patients experiencing chronic pain. The instruments used include nursing care formats, a Nursing Kit, and SOP for the innovative hand massage procedure. Data analysis is conducted descriptively and qualitatively, presented in tables and narratives. Results: The assessment results indicate that all five patients have the same primary complaint of chronic pain. The priority nursing diagnosis for Patients I-V is chronic pain related to nerve compression, evidenced by complaints of pain on a scale of 4-6. The nursing interventions carried out include pain management and the non-pharmacological intervention of hand massage. The nursing implementation involved comprehensive pain assessment and the application of hand massage. The nursing evaluation results for the five post-operative ca mammae patients showed a reduction in pain scale after the non-pharmacological hand massage intervention. On average, patients experienced a reduction in pain by 3 scales. Conclusion: The application of hand massage is effective in reducing chronic pain in ca mammae patients at Regional General Hospital Dr Soedirman Kebumen. Recommendations: It is recommended to integrate hand massage as part of the pain management protocol for breast cancer patients at Regional General Hospital Dr Soedirman Kebumen to enhance patient quality of life.
