Abstract
Background: Diabetes melitus (DM) is characterized as a metabolic disorder marked by hyperglycemia due to insufficient insulin production. According to a 2021 report by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), Indonesia ranks 5th globally in terms of the number of DM sufferers. The success of treatment in diabetes sufferers is influenced by the active involvement of both the patients and their families in controlling blood sugar levels and preventing complications. Objective: The analysis of family nursing care in relation to the developmental stage of elderly families, with the main issue of ineffective health maintenance, has been carried out among diabetes mellitus patients in Kalijambe Village, Bener District, Purworejo Regency. Method: A descriptive case study design was employed in this scientific paper. The subjects consisted of 5 families in the elderly developmental stage, with diabetes mellitus patients who experienced issues related to ineffective health maintenance. Data were collected using observation techniques, interviews, and documentation studies over a period of 7 days. Results: Among the five patients, the diagnosis of ineffective health maintenance was identified. Dragon fruit therapy was implemented over a period of 7 days to reduce blood sugar levels. An average reduction of 41.2 mg/dl in GDS was recorded across the five respondents. Recommendation: Dragon fruit therapy conducted over a 7-day period is recommended for the elderly, as it has shown to significantly reduce blood sugar levels.
