Abstract
Background: The high prevalence of scabies in students who live in Islamic boarding schools results in the physical health of students. This is due to dense housing, or physical contact and interaction between residents and poor personal hygiene, which contributes to the spread of mites that cause scabies. Objective: Knowing the relationship between personal hygiene behavior and scabies incidents at the AL-Kamal Islamic Boarding School, Tambaksari Village, Kuwarasan District. Method: This study uses a correlative descriptive quantitative method with a Cross Sectional approach. Sampling was conducted using the Simple Random sampling technique with the help of 3 assistants, and the number of respondents was 87 people. Data collection was carried out using a Personal Hygiene questionnaire consisting of 15 questions and a Skabies observation sheet consisting of 10 questions.. Results of the study: Based on the characteristics of respondents in the age category, the majority of them are 12-15 years old, namely 68 respondents (78.2%). In the gender category, the majority of women were 45 students (51.%) with a junior high school education of 84 respondents (96.6). The personal hygiene behavior of students at Al-Kamal Islamic boarding schools is in the category of moderately high as many as 56 respondents (64.4%). Meanwhile, the incidence of scabies at the Al-Kamal Kuwarasan Islamic boarding school in the category of students who had signs of symptoms of scabies was 67 respondents (77.0%). The results of the chi square test obtained a p-value of 0.000 < 0.05. Conclusion: So it can be concluded that there is a significant relationship between personal hygiene and the incidence of scabies in the Al-Kamal Islamic boarding school podok, Tambaksari Village, Kuwarasan District. Recommendation: The next suggestion for researchers is to be able to identify the knowledge and attitude of the students towards the symptoms of scabies.
