Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a chronic condition where blood pressure in the arteries increases which causes the heart to work harder to circulate blood throughout the body. Management of hypertension with non-pharmacological handgrip exercise therapy is a relaxation technique that can influence pain in hypertension sufferers. Isometric handgrip training, as a form of non-pharmacological management, can lower blood pressure through physiological pathways, primarily through subtle changes in the autonomic nervous system, vascular function, and heart rate. Objective: Describe nursing care by implementing handgrip exercises to relieve pain and reduce blood pressure in hypertensive patients. Methods: The design of writing this scientific paper adopted a descriptive research approach in the form of a case study. With the client subject having a history of hypertension as many as 3 respondents in Geblug village which was carried out for 3 days. To determine the presence of a decrease in blood pressure and pain scale, an evaluation sheet is attached. Results: After being given handgrip exercise for 3 days, the results were that patients 1, 2, and 3 experienced a decrease in pain scale and a decrease in blood pressure. Conclusion: Applying handgrip exercise to hypertensive patients who experience pain has been proven to reduce the pain scale, pain complaints, and can stabilize blood pressure.
