Abstract
Background: The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is a special unit in a hospital where most patients suffer from decreased consciousness. The main issue of service in the ICU is patient safety, adverse events (unexpected events), and KTC (non-injury events). One management to reduce patient safety incidents is by installing restraints. However, the impact of installing restraints is that the patient experiences abrasions, swelling, redness and is at risk of injury. Objective: to determine the relationship between physical restraint and the degree of injury in patients with decreased consciousness in the ICU at Prembun Regional Hospital, Kebumen Regency. Method: This research used a descriptive correlation method. The samples taken were 49 patients with decreased consciousness using total sampling technique. Bivariate analysis with Chi-Square. Results: The majority did not experience restraint or grade 0 injuries, namely 28 people (57.1%), 18 respondents who had grade 1 injuries (36.7%) and only 3 respondents who had grade 2 injuries (6.1%). Most of the restraint installation time was < 36 hours, namely 40 people (81.6%) and respondents with restraint installation time >36 hours were 9 people (18.4%). Conclusion: There is a relationship between the length of time physical restraints are applied and the degree of injury in patients with decreased consciousness in the ICU at Prembun Regional Hospital, Kebumen Regency Recommendation: The hospital creates a restraint SOP by using cuffs and increasing the number of cuffs to minimize the degree of injury.
