Abstract

Background: Hypertension, or high blood pressure, is a global health issue often referred to as the "silent killer" due to its asymptomatic nature. According to the WHO, 1.28 billion adults are affected, many of whom are unaware of their condition. In Indonesia, the prevalence of hypertension increased from 25.8% in 2013 to 34.1% in 2018. Risk factors include an unhealthy diet and a lack of physical activity; however, autogenic relaxation has proven effective in reducing both blood pressure and pain. Objective: To describe the outcomes of nursing care for patients with elevated blood pressure and acute pain. Method: This qualitative descriptive case study focused on the nursing process for patients with hypertension and acute pain. The study involved five inpatients with hypertension and pain lasting less than three months, conducted at RSUD Prof. Dr. Margono Soekarjo from November 2023 to March 2024. The methodology includes assessment, diagnosis, intervention, and evaluation using nursing care formats, along with autogenic relaxation therapy comprising three intervention sessions. Results: The application of autogenic relaxation for five hypertensive patients with acute pain demonstrated a significant daily reduction in pain levels and blood pressure. This technique effectively alleviated pain and lowered both systolic and diastolic blood pressure, corroborating previous research that confirms its efficacy in managing pain and normalizing blood pressure in hypertensive patients. Recommendation: The study recommends autogenic relaxation as a non-pharmacological technique for pain management and blood pressure reduction in patients with hypertension.
