Abstract
Background: Aging is the final stage of human life that everyone will go through. Aging is a condition in which a person experiences a gradual decline in physical, mental, and social functions, making it difficult to perform daily activities or leading to physical deterioration. In addition to physical health problems, the elderly are also at risk of psychological disorders, one of which is anxiety. Several approaches can be taken to reduce anxiety levels in the elderly, aside from pharmacological therapy, such as Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR). Objective: To explain the analysis of nursing care for elderly patients with anxiety through the administration of Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR) in Tanggeran Village, Sruweng. Method: This scientific work uses a case study with a descriptive research design. The number of respondents was 5, and nursing care was provided in 3 sessions over 7 days, with an intervention duration of approximately 1 hour. The tools used included the psychosocial nursing care format, GAI questionnaire, observation sheets, and standard operating procedures. Results: After the nursing care interventions, it was found that all five patients had anxiety-related nursing issues. The main intervention in this study was the administration of Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR). The results showed that after therapy, all patients (100%) experienced a reduction in anxiety and were able to perform Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR) independently. Before therapy, the five respondents experienced moderate anxiety with an average score of 8.2, which decreased to mild anxiety with an average score of 2 after therapy. Recommendation: Future researchers are encouraged to study the administration of Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR) therapy in patients with acute pain.
